Getting Ready for Air Conditioning Season

April 30, 2016

Summer hasn’t quite made its debut but the temperatures are definitely warming up and that means it’s time for A/C season. Before the heat sets in and you’re running your A/C system constantly to stay comfortable, don’t forget to call your AC service technician to stop by and conduct your yearly ac maintenance.

In addition to a Precision A/C tune-up, there are several other ways you can get your home ready for the cooling season before higher temperatures are officially here to stay.

  • Clean Your System

We don’t mean for you to take you’re A/C system apart, let a qualified technician do that, but you can clean up the ground around your system to clear away twigs and foliage that have made their way to your air conditioner during the windy winter and stormy spring. Keep the grass trimmed around the unit and trim back any overgrown bushes or vegetation to make sure your air conditioning unit is clear of debris. Keeping a clear airway can help keep your A/C equipment running properly.

·     Change Your Home’s Air Filters

Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning will change your home’s basic air filters when they perform your seasonal tune-up as part of your regular A/C maintenance. You can (and should) also change your HVAC air filters by yourself, and it’s advised that you do so at least every one to two months for optimal performance. If you don’t change your air filter it accumulates dust, allergens, and germs so for the health of your family and the efficiency of your air conditioning equipment, make sure you’re changing those filters as part of your standard cooling equipment service. Also, a clogged filter could possibly damage your A/C system.

  • Block the Sun

Hanging blackout drapes or window shades can help keep your home cooler and avoid the sun from heating up your home. These window coverings may also help keep your furniture and floors from fading or experiencing sun damage over time.

·     Check Alarm Batteries

If you forgot to check the batteries in your smoke and CO detectors over daylight savings, now is the time. Remember to also check the batteries in your thermostat to make sure it is running properly so you don’t end up calling your air conditioning repair technician because your system isn’t running and then it ends up just being the thermostat. You could also consider purchasing a programmable thermostat so you can adjust the temperature remotely and save money on your energy bills.

A seasonal A/C system tune-up service could make your A/C unit up to 30% more efficient and save you money on your cooling bills. Call Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning today to make sure your cooling equipment is ready to keep you cool and comfortable all summer and find out about our spring specials on AC Precision tune-ups.
