When the Dallas-Fort Worth area Service Experts Heating and Air Conditioning locations (Calverley Service Experts, Service Experts Heating and Air Conditioning Plano/DFW, and Levy and Son) chose to support the Walk MS events in Dallas and Fort Worth, they thought it’d be great to offer a product to the event attendees.
“We believed an APCO Air Purifier was the ideal product to auction off since this spring we have been all about saving the air, and it helps eliminate germs and bacteria from indoor air that can worsen allergies and respiratory issues,” said Rob Haines, Marketing Manager for Service Experts.
Kim Speck won the Fresh-Aire UV APCO Air Purifier when her bid came in highest at the Dallas Walk MS event. Kim first learned about the APCO a few months before when she saw an article regarding the significance of indoor air quality.
“I wasn’t too interested at the time because I didn’t comprehend its compatibility with just about any heating and cooling system, and figured it was another one of those “luxuries” that was beyond my budget. When they were auctioning it off at Walk MS event, they were talking about the seriousness of good indoor air quality for MS sufferers and I instantly thought of my father.”
Kim’s father was in his 90s and had lived with COPD for over twenty years. For the past four years he had been on oxygen constantly, 24/7/365.
“The allergens in the air irritated him even though I would install the more costly 3M Filtrate brand of home air filters. They just weren’t helping. He frequently caught pneumonia even though he had only left the house over the past four years to visit his doctors.”
The pneumonia would cause Kim’s father to spend a minimum of two months in the hospital and rehabilitation clinic. In the time leading up to the Walk MS event in Addison, Kim’s father had spent almost a month in the hospital and a few days at the rehab facility rebounding from two strings of pneumonia. After being there to see her father endure so much, Kim resolved she was going to “roll the dice” and try to win the APCO, which would not only help her dad get some “clean” air, but the proceeds also went to benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Kim was elated when she found out her bid had won and planned on getting the APCO installed in her father’s residence before he was sent home from the rehab clinic. Unfortunately, just three days after the MS Walk, Kim’s father was brought home to hospice care and passed away peacefully on April 16th. The APCO arrived the week after he passed.
Kim chose to have the APCO installed in her own home because her husband has problems with allergies. Shortly after it was put in, she was cooking onions and realized she couldn’t smell any odors once she finished. She’s excited to see the long-term effects of her APCO air purifier.
Everyone here at Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning sends their thoughts and prayers to Kim and her family.
