What NATE Certification is and Why it Matters

November 08, 2016

Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning in Longmont always talks about how our team of experts are NATE-certified, and while it sounds encouraging, what does it really mean?

NATE stands for North American Technician Excellence and, according to their website, is the nation’s largest certification organization for HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) and refrigeration technicians. The organization is owned, operated, developed, and supported by the entire HVAC and refrigeration industry but not all technicians in the industry are required to be certified through NATE. The certification is discretionary and technicians can provide heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration services without being certified by NATE.

It’s important to Service Experts that our experts are NATE-certified to ensure we are sending the most qualified and trained technicians into your home. To make sure technicians meet these criteria, the NATE-certification tests validate real-world working knowledge of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems for technicians. The tests are knowledge-based tests that assess the technician’s knowledge of these standards.

Since Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning focuses on the HVAC side of NATE-certification (not refrigeration), there are only specific areas relevant to our technicians. NATE assessment candidates may obtain installation and/or service certification in one or more of the specialty areas listed below:

  • Air Conditioning
