Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are making our way through the last few weeks of winter but we still are relying on our furnaces, especially during frigid nights. Not much is worse than turning in at night and realizing your furnace won’t turn on. If your furnace won’t turn on, here are a couple things you can check yourself before your call Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning.

Check Air Filters

You should change standard air filters each month. If you do not, they can become clogged, obstructing air flow and resulting in your furnace malfunctioning.

Check Your Thermostat

Try turning the temperature up a few degrees to get the furnace to kick on. If the actual room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the heating system won’t turn on. Also, confirm the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem ridiculous, but verify the power switch next to the heating system is “On.” Even gas heating systems use electricity so verify the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch has not been accidently switched to the “Off” position.

If you check all these things and your heating equipment will still not start up, give Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning a call at 303-647-5749 and we’ll come out and get you heating again as soon as possible.
