Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are making our way through the last few weeks of winter but we still are relying on our furnaces, especially during frigid nights. Nothing is worse than going to bed at night and realizing your furnace won’t kick on. If your furnace won’t turn on, here are a couple things you can check yourself before calling Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning.

Check Air Filters

You should replace standard air filters each month. If you do not, they can end up clogged, restricting air flow and causing your furnace to malfunction.

Check Your Thermostat

Try turning the temperature up a few degrees to get the furnace to kick on. If the current room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the furnace won’t run. Also, make sure the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem ridiculous, but verify the power switch next to the heating system is “On.” Even gas furnaces use electricity so verify the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch has not been accidently moved to the “Off” position.

If you check all these things and your heating equipment will still not start up, give Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning a call at 303-647-5749 and we’ll come out and get you heating again as soon as possible.
