paul S. longmont, colorado May 27, 2023 "Called Service Experts Heating and Air Conditioning and was thankful they fit me in same day as my house was without hot water as my tankless Rinnai hot water heater (HWH) would only run loudly for a few seconds before shutting down with a 10 error code. Just before the technician arrived I found a 14 minute YouTube video that was a tutorial on my suspected issue with the Rinnai HWH. I watched it a few times and got started on the project as Im relatively mechanically capable and thought it worth a try. I got the face-cover off and about that tile the technician arrived. I described to him the presenting issue and I showed him a clip of the video I had watched showing that a small blower fan likely had taken in moths or lint and needed to be cleaned. Technician took a look and started talking about his dislike for Rinnai products which I now think is a reflection of his unfamiliarity with the product. Instead of removing the blower fan and cleaning it, he said it was behind a valve and something else and would be an all day project. I recommend a possible shortcut which was me grabbing my leaf blower and attempting to clean the venting/unit in a sort of shortcut/backwards approach. It turns out, that worked, initially, and discovered that the same problem occurred minutes after I paid $310 for the service call +1 hour labor, and he left. Also, had I not recommended the blower technique that only worked temporarily, I dont think any work would have occurred besides the tech voicing his displeasure with Rinnai. So, another night without water, wallet $310 lighter, and I decided Id tackle the project in the morning. I once again removed the cover plate and 1 digital display, disconnected 2 wire harnesses and removed 4 screws to then remove the expected issue, a dirty blower. It was obvious that this YouTube tutorial and the expectation were the issue: the blower was filled with dead moths and their residue. I cleaned the fan with compressed air and wiped out the housing. I reassembled and tested successfully, that I had repaired the HWH. I have bear zero HVAC/plumbing experience other than other projects that Ive tried on my own and Im disappointed that I paid top dollar for this Service Expert technician, to not perform in any meaningful way. Further proof that more often than not, YouTube is much cheaper and more effective for many problems we may encounter with mechanical issues. I understand that when encountering any given mechanical problem there can be any number of unknown causes and issues. I also simply know that Ill never use nor recommend the services of Service Experts Heating and Air Conditioning"

As for the installation of sump pump, I think he did a good job but the check valve leaks water and the pump wouldn't turn off completely within the first 24 hours. I unplugged the pump and allowed the water level to rise above the pump, plugged back in and the pump operated normally. Seems to be operating normally now; don't know what the problem was but have second thoughts on having the work done."

The person who came to do the furnace check-up also helped me sign up for the yearly contract which I had previously been told no longer existed and when I was paying monthly I had extreme difficulties over the payments for months I was double charged. I was also massively overcharged for a filter which I now buy independently. I'm told they are working on restoring trust in their service, so will see how things go."

A day later we got the part, the furnace was repaired & a few days after the repair, the furnace stopped working. They came out again & told us this is why we should have bought a new furnace. They did get the furnace to work, while they were here, but when they left, it didn't work again. Done with their shoddy service, the next day we called H&M Mechanical who sent a technician that day who told us we had a non-OEM ignitor that was the problem. He had an OEM ingnitor in his truck, replaced the bad one Service Experts sold us & the furnace has worked just fine since. When it's time to buy a new furnace we will call H&M, not Service Experts."

Neighbor with same sized home, AC sitting next to ours told he was over sizing- we were later told we had under sized. Both installed same month. We just had a thousand dollars of labor done for warranted parts. Theyve had nothing fail. We bought the air purifier, it failed and then we learned its parts were obsolete and no longer available. We added the whole house humidifier, took the local shop at least three trips to install and get it to run properly. Have been on the monthly preferred customer plan, been told more than oncewith your warranty running out I believe it has another twelve months left. I think you should have reps from both the Service Exp. Home office and the Lennox manufacturer look at our equipment. It is almost laughable that identical equipment next door has not failed the way ours has. Not surprisingly that one of us was told the ac was under sized and the other told it was over sized. I have figured out that the current local mgmnt team is fairly new and cleaning up for the sins of the prior people, but I still have that equipment."

I woke up the morning of 3/25 with a burning smell and no heat and discovered that the can capacitor to the blower was left disconnected. I called and within two hours two other technicians (ticket 0111594) came, hooked it back up, and told me no damage was done. Still the burning smell has been horrible and I don't know if I believe that components weren't prematurely aged. Having been ripped off by multiple HVAC companies (fake carbon monoxide readings, etc.), I'm finding it hard to believe that neither of the first two technicians noticed that capacitor was not reconnected, and I'm also wondering if had I NOT called out the issue, perhaps I would have been sold something unnecessary."

They also informed me hat they could easily order a replacement part that service experts claimed was not replaceable. To top it all off, Service experts gave me a quote to replace my furnace for over double the price provided by the other company. Complete and total ripoff by Service Experts. You should be ashamed of yourselves. You prey on people who are without a reliable way to heat their homes."

The service person tried to upsell my wife a new furnace, saying ours was 10 years old (the Lennox high efficiency furnaces last 15-20 years). And this, after we had already scheduled and paid for the $800 repair. If the furnace really needed replacing (which it did not) the time to have mentioned that was during the previous visit when the current problem was diagnosed and the repair was ordered. During the regular furnace checkup in Fall 2021, I specifically asked the tech if the inducer motor was okay because during the 2020 checkup, the tech had mentioned it was showing signs of wear and to keep an eye on it. The tech during the most recent 2021 visit seemed in a hurry and said dismissively that it was fine. The inducer motor started to fail the beginning of this year, necessitating the most recent repair. I am seriously considering switching companies. More minor concerns: the repair person used an old inoperative phone number to try calling ahead that they were coming. This, despite the fact that I had updated the number after our last visit and the appointment has been confirmed by the scheduler using the correct number."

He did come back and blow out the sprinklers again, but service experts will not take responsibility for the technicians incompetence. What should have been a 150 dollar/ ten min repair is now going to cost me more money in legal fees."

Normally techs voluntarily put on booties when entering to protect carpets, but I had to ask John to do this. Both my furnace and humidifier were turned way up to test (totally fine) but were not turned back down to where they were, so when I got home later in the day my house felt like a steam room. I've already been weighing the benefits of the yearly maintenance contract and will likely not renew - not just because of this visit."
